ReDeepSeek vs Monica AI

A browser sidebar and a standalone workspace, compared on features, pricing, and limits. Every Monica figure below is taken from Monica's own pricing page and documentation, with sources and capture dates listed at the bottom.

The short answer

Choose ReDeepSeek if you want a standalone workspace for sustained work: long writing sessions, coding, document and image analysis, and web search with citations, on flat plans with unlimited messages on Professional ($18/month).

Choose Monica AI if your main need is a browser sidebar for quick in-page actions: summarizing the article you are reading, translating a paragraph, or rewriting an email without switching tabs — or if you want to switch between frontier models from GPT, Claude and Gemini in one interface.

Neither tool is "better" in the abstract. The right pick depends on whether your AI usage is deep and session-based or light and in-browser. The rest of this page explains the trade-offs in both directions.

What is Monica AI?

Monica AI (monica.im, operated by Butterfly Effect Pte. Ltd.) is one of the better-known browser-based AI assistants. It lives primarily as a sidebar extension for Chrome, Edge, and Safari, and gives you access to multiple large language models in one interface, alongside tools for summarizing web pages and YouTube videos, translating text, chatting with PDFs, writing assistance, and AI image generation. The company reports over 10 million users, and it also ships desktop and mobile apps.

Monica's real strength is convenience while browsing. Highlight text on any page and you can explain, translate, or rewrite it without leaving the tab. For light, frequent, in-context tasks, that sidebar workflow is genuinely useful. Its paid tiers also carry real frontier models — Monica's pricing page lists GPT-5.5, Claude 4.6 Sonnet and Gemini 3.1 Pro as advanced models, with Claude 4.5 Haiku, Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite and GPT-5.4 mini as the basic tier.

Where the friction is, in Monica's own words

We don't need reviewers for this part — Monica documents it. Their help centre explains that each model has an upper limit on how much context it can hold, so once a conversation reaches a certain length the AI may lose the instructions you gave it at the start. Their advice is to start new chats periodically, and they note that Monica's own system prompts count against your context too.

That behaviour is the default, not an edge case. Monica's context management runs in "Smart Trimming" mode out of the box, which trims conversation context as the chat grows. The alternative, "Custom Limit", retains full context but is available to members only and spends advanced credits on every query.

The other friction is the meter. Advanced credits reset on the 1st of each month and do not roll over, regardless of when you subscribed. And Monica's own documentation notes that once the Max and Ultra allowance of 1,600 advanced and 12,000 basic queries is used up, query frequency is reduced to 100 per day.

What is ReDeepSeek?

ReDeepSeek takes the opposite architectural approach to a sidebar: it is a dedicated AI workspace. You get an AI chat assistant, a content generation suite, a code assistant covering 30+ programming languages, web search with cited sources, and document and image analysis, in one place.

The pricing is flat rather than metered: 50 messages per day free, 500 per day on Starter ($10/month), and unlimited messages with priority speed on Professional ($18/month). Annual billing saves 20%, bringing Professional to $14.40/month. There is no advanced-credit meter to budget against and no allocation to lose at month end.

Conversation history is retained for 15 days on Starter and 50 days on Professional. Within a session, full context is kept — we do not trim your conversation to manage cost.

On the name: ReDeepSeek is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or built by DeepSeek. We are an independent product and have no relationship with that company.

Where Each Tool Wins

Six categories, assessed honestly. Here is where each tool is genuinely stronger.

Long-form content: ReDeepSeek

Unlimited messages on Professional and full in-session context make multi-hour writing and editing sessions practical. Credit-metered tools penalize exactly this kind of heavy iteration.

In-browser quick tasks: Monica

Summarizing the page you are on, translating a highlighted paragraph, or rewriting an email inline is Monica's home turf. A sidebar beats a separate tab for these micro-tasks, and we don't ship one at all.

Coding sessions: ReDeepSeek

We hold full context across a long debugging or architecture session. Monica's documented default is to trim context as the conversation grows, and their own FAQ advises starting new chats periodically — which means re-explaining code you have already covered.

Research with sources: ReDeepSeek

Advanced web search returns cited, verifiable sources on the Professional plan, which matters when the output feeds published work rather than casual reading.

Model variety: Monica

Monica's paid tiers put GPT-5.5, Claude 4.6 Sonnet and Gemini 3.1 Pro behind one interface, and Max and Ultra include unlimited access to them within the documented query allowance. If switching between specific third-party models is central to your workflow, that is a real advantage over a single-workspace product.

Predictable billing: ReDeepSeek

Flat plans, no credit math, no expiring allocations, and no documented throttle once you're on Professional. Like any vendor we can change list prices, and our terms require 30 days' notice before we do — but you will never run out mid-task and have to top up to keep working.

Pricing Compared

Both columns are month-to-month list prices, so they compare like for like. Monica's figures were captured from monica.im/pricing on 16 July 2026; screenshots below.

Tier ReDeepSeek Monica AI
Free $0 · 50 messages/day, single thread, no web search $0 · 40 basic-model queries/day, no advanced queries
Entry Starter, $10/mo ($8/mo billed annually) · 500 messages/day, web search, 15-day history Pro, $9.90/mo ($8.30/mo billed annually) · 5,000 basic and 200 advanced queries/month, plus 1,500 advanced credits
Power user Professional, $18/mo ($14.40/mo billed annually) · unlimited messages, priority speed, document & image analysis, 50-day history, team workspace (5 seats) Max, $24.90/mo ($16.60/mo billed annually, a 33% flash-sale price against a $299/yr list) · unlimited basic and advanced queries within a documented allowance, plus 4,500 advanced credits
Heavy / power+ No higher tier to buy. Professional is already unlimited at $18/mo — there is no allowance to exhaust, so there is nothing to upgrade to Ultra, $99.90/mo ($82.90/mo billed annually) · same unlimited allowance, plus 20,000 advanced credits
Enterprise / API Custom · REST API, SLAs, SSO/SAML, dedicated infrastructure Separate pay-as-you-go Open API, billed apart from any subscription

Like for like, month-to-month, ReDeepSeek Professional is $18 against Monica Max at $24.90 — about 28% less. On annual billing the gap narrows to $14.40 against $16.60, but only while Monica's flash sale runs. At Monica's $299/yr list price, annual Max works out at $24.90/month — the same as paying monthly.

Monica AI pricing page with annual billing enabled, showing Max at US$16.6 per month with a 33% flash sale badge
The same page with annual billing enabled. Max drops to $16.60/month, marked as a 33% flash sale against a struck-through $299/year list. Captured 16 July 2026.

The structural difference matters as much as the sticker price. A credit meter shifts usage risk to you: run out mid-month and you either top up or wait for the 1st. A flat message plan shifts that risk to the vendor. If you use AI lightly, the meter may never bite. If you use it daily, flat pricing is what stops a heavy week from costing extra.

Where ReDeepSeek Falls Short

No tool is right for everyone. Here is where Monica fits better than we do — we would rather you know before you sign up than after.

No browser extension

Monica lives in your sidebar on any page. We don't. If most of your AI use is "explain this paragraph I'm reading right now", a workspace in another tab is the wrong shape and Monica is the better tool.

Web app only

Monica ships desktop and mobile apps and syncs across up to 10 devices on Ultra. We're a web app. If you need AI on your phone, that's a real gap.

History expires

Conversation history is kept for 15 days on Starter and 50 days on Professional, not forever. If you need an archive going back years, plan to export.

No model switching

Monica lets you pick between GPT, Claude and Gemini per query. We don't offer that choice. If model selection is part of your workflow, that's a genuine advantage we don't match.

We're small and new

Monica reports over 10 million users. We're a much smaller company with a much shorter track record. That's a fair thing to weigh, and no comparison table can argue you out of it.

No free web search

Our free tier is 50 messages a day on a single thread, with no web search — that starts at Starter. Monica's free tier includes AI Search.

Pick Monica AI if you…

  • Mostly need AI while reading in the browser: summarize, translate, explain in place
  • Want to choose between GPT, Claude and Gemini per query
  • Need AI on mobile or desktop, not just the web
  • Use AI lightly enough that 40 free queries a day cover you
  • Value one-click YouTube and web page summarization above long-session depth

Monica is a capable tool and better than us at several things — see where we fall short. If your usage outgrows the sidebar, our free tier is here.

ReDeepSeek vs Monica AI: Common Questions

Is ReDeepSeek better than Monica AI?

It depends on your workflow, and for several use cases the answer is no. ReDeepSeek is built for deep, session-based work: long-form content, coding, document analysis, and cited research, with unlimited messages on Professional. Monica is stronger as a browser sidebar, on mobile, and if you want to switch between frontier models. If your AI use is sustained and daily, our flat pricing and full in-session context usually win. If it's light and in-browser, Monica fits better.

What is Monica AI used for?

Monica AI (monica.im) is a browser-extension assistant for Chrome, Edge, and Safari offering multi-model chat, web page and YouTube summarization, translation, writing help, ChatPDF, and AI image generation, with companion desktop and mobile apps.

Is ReDeepSeek cheaper than Monica AI?

At entry level they're close: Starter is $10/month against Monica Pro at $9.90/month, so Monica is marginally cheaper. At the power-user tier the gap is real — ReDeepSeek Professional is $18/month against Monica Max at $24.90/month, about 28% less. On annual billing it's $14.40 against $16.60, though Monica's annual price is currently a 33% flash sale against a $299/year list; at list price, annual Max is $24.90/month. Figures captured from monica.im on 16 July 2026.

Does Monica AI have a free plan?

Yes. Monica's free tier gives 40 basic-model queries per day, resetting at 00:00 UTC, with no advanced queries and a limited image and video generation trial. ReDeepSeek's free tier is 50 messages per day on a single conversation thread, without web search, and no credit card. Both are free indefinitely, so you can trial both before spending anything.

Does Monica AI have an API?

Yes. Monica runs an Open API platform at platform.monica.im with an OpenAI-compatible chat completions endpoint. It's billed separately from a Monica subscription and requires you to add funds before use — your Pro, Max or Ultra plan does not cover API calls. ReDeepSeek's REST API is included in the Custom plan rather than sold as a separate prepaid product.

Does Monica throttle heavy users?

Monica's own documentation says the Max and Ultra plans include 1,600 unrestricted advanced-model queries and 12,000 basic queries per month, and that once that allowance is used up query frequency is adjusted to 100 per day. Advanced credits reset on the 1st of each month and don't roll over. ReDeepSeek Professional is unlimited messages with no documented daily cap.

Can I switch from Monica AI to ReDeepSeek?

Yes, and there's nothing to install. Sign up on the web and paste in your existing prompts or templates. Start on the free tier to confirm the fit before upgrading. Note that we don't have a browser extension, so if your Monica workflow is mostly in-page actions, expect a real change in how you work.

Can I use both tools together?

Plenty of people do, and given we don't ship an extension it's a sensible split: Monica's free tier for quick in-browser summaries, ReDeepSeek for drafting, coding, analysis, and research. The two don't conflict, since one is an extension and the other is a workspace.

Is ReDeepSeek related to DeepSeek?

No. ReDeepSeek is an independent product with no affiliation to, endorsement from, or commercial relationship with DeepSeek.

Our method

Every Monica figure on this page was read off Monica's own pricing page and help centre on 16 July 2026, and the screenshots above are our own capture from that day. We don't use review aggregators for pricing. While compiling this page we found them quoting Monica at five different prices, and one had confused Monica AI with an unrelated product that happens to share the name. Where we describe how Monica behaves, we're describing what Monica documents — not what someone said about it.

ReDeepSeek figures come from our own pricing, terms and refund policy pages.

Monica changes pricing and plan structure regularly — the tiers were named Pro, Pro Plus and Unlimited before becoming Pro, Max and Ultra. We re-check this page quarterly and date every figure. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.
